Last Light

On the first day in the Dolomites we had that dramatic moment where the whole weather/light situation changed within a few moments. We've taken several shots during that time - we were excited and running around on the search for good places and compositions. I loved this moment when the sun was deep enough to cover the foreground in shadow while the peaks behind still glowed in the warm light. As so many other shots, this one was taken close to the "Tre Cime".
Canon 5DMII, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS, Polarizer.

I'm not sure if I will post another image before Christmas, so everybody have great and peaceful holidays and great weather if you plan to go shooting around that time.

Thanks for all your thoughts and comments ... as usual I attached a LARGER version too.

Wonderful lighting, details and contrasts here, Andreas. I really enjoy a more pano crop as well.

Again great light on the peak. I was also thinking a pano crop, as the deep blue sky add a a nice contrast in color but not too much interest as far as texture.

This has turned out great. The sky is working really well along with the closer rocks in shadow to frame the sunlit peaks.

This is excellent, Andreas. The colors, light, and detail are all very, very beautiful. My first thought was to crop some off the top, but at the same time, i like the darker clouds up there to create a stopping point for my eye, keeping them within the frame.

Happy holidays to you as well! :wavey:

I like the graininess in the shadow part of the mountain Andreas. It really picks up the dusting of snow there. The color casts just enhance the mood nicely! :toast:

Wonderful drama. I could see darkening the foreground rocks just a bit to increase the drama on the lit mountain top, but this makes a strong impression as is.

What a trip you had, Andreas. Another stunning mountain image. Just love all the detail and the warm/cool palette. I still wonder why so much sky...? I'd be cropping almost an inch off the top, as it makes the mountains that much more powerful to me. Perhaps just a reflection on personal taste or style… Dunno, but your images are sure making me think about it.

Light and peace of the holiday season to you, too.

Well Andre you saved what I consider your best shot for last. Holly Hippo Days. I'll be in the Eastern Sierra for New Year's.

I like the cold cliffs in the foreground and warn light on the background peaks. Excellent contrasts Andreas. Fantastic detail too.
