Vermillion Flycatcher

I birded at Gilbert Water Preserve near Phoenix, AZ yesterday and had a great time getting out with some others for 1/2 day. It is nice feeling better and stronger each day.

I can't pass by a little Vermillion Flycatcher without trying for a photo. They simply glow in the dark! I hope you enjoy him as well.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

I would never pass up a chance to photograph one of these this close. I have only seen them a couple times from a distance. I love how the blue sky works with the red of the bird. The red is difficult to expose properly and you have done an excellent job IMO. Nice perch too. I would love to have this nice of shot of a Vermillion Flycatcher.

Super shot Hans. I am glad you are feeling better and getting out again. Your exposure and sharpness on the bird look very good and I like the comp a lot. I wish we had these around here. Such an awesome bird. Well done.

I heard from friends at the GWR today that you were up on Friday - too bad I missed seeing you again.

This bird is one of 2-3 that are hanging around now, and you did well getting him on a good clean branch and not on top of one of the trees. but it looks like this was overexposed as so often happens with this brilliant color in bright light: there's some strangeness to the texture on the front of the bird here.

Beautiful bird Hans. I'm curious as to why the perch is fuzzy in spots? I would assume DOF, but it looks like it's on the same plane.
