Some days all seems to come together. Very pleased with this shot because our red deer are very difficult to get. When you get them in this light your not only very lucky but also very very happy.

iso 200 1/40 sec. f/5.6 full frame. Nikon D3 and Nikon 200-400. From a self build hide onder a tree.

Excellent. I like that the angle of the face (straight on either toward us or perhaps in the other direction) and those erect ears give a sense of alertness. The plant silhouettes add some nice subtle texture too. Nice work, Edwin.

Hi Edwin,

I like the very graphic nature of this image, and I find the overall composition (especially where you've placed the subject vertically within the frame) pleasing. The brightness gradient from top to bottom works well for me and those thin clouds near the top of the composition add a nice touch. Nice work as well on the sharpening - those antlers would have been SO susceptible to the halos of oversharpening - but they look great to me.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Boy can I believe you are happy with this one Edwin. This is a perfect silhouette with that 90 degree head turn and the clear separation of all four legs, and that color is to die for and the clouds in the top section are just icing on the cake!!! Congrats. :toast:

I was in the Netherlands a few months back, but only for a few days ,and in the local woods I saw lots of tracks of deer (though I did not go as far as to identify the species) and could already see movement patterns. If I would have had more time, I would have built a hide, coz in such areas that is the only way to photograph these elusive Dutch deer.

Very arresting! This has enough "space" over the deer ( room to title & text) to make it a great candidate for a magazine cover.

A very strong graphic image Edwin, love the great silhouette with lots of 'empty' space. I would like to metnion one very small point for improvement, I would have loved to see a slight headturn so there would have been an outline of the snout visible. This is very minor, but I thought I'd mention it. Superb image!

Great silhouette. Like the color as well. Looks like it could use a little rotation.
