Hello everybody,

it's been a long time since I've posted in this gallery but the job has made me very busy.

I start again with a dipper and his lunch

In the meantime I got my first prime lens and I'm learning.

40D
300 f2,8 + 2 TC
f6,3
1/500
ISO 640
HH

Thanks for viewing and comments :wavey:

Hi Monica, big congrats on the new lens. A unique shot and terrific action with this dipper tossing the fry. I think it could use just a little more sharpening. :toast:

That new lens and 2.0X TC is a lethal combination - you will not go wrong at f8! Great to catch this with fish!

When I open the large image there is a lot of noise or is it a big crop? Nevertheless, it's fabulous to see the dipper with a fish. :toast:

Thanks Nate, KC and Akos for your comments.
This is a 67% crop. I've seen the noise in the bg of the larger version. I'll try to apply a noise reduction.

Very cool Monica. Another fine example of the Dipper's diet !
I agree with Nate that the bird could do with another round of sharpening :toast:

Really cool shot, Monica. Other than the noise that others have already mentioned, a really nice action shot.

My inclination would be to crop tighter on bird & fish. Generally I find tight crops have more immediacy in dramatic images such as this and in this image it would also have the advantage of removing some distracting background & foreground.

Amazing to get this species with a fish in the air pretty sharp given the lighting where they usually hang out Monica. Exposure looks good, nice catch light and your comp works pretty well for me.

Monica,

I quite like the setting and how you caught the fry in mid air.

I would work on the noise issue if this were mine.

I like you low angle, the pose of the dipper and that you were able to get light in the eye.

I've seen Dippers on numerous occasions but never with a fish so this is a unique image for me. I don't have this particular lens but I usually have some noise problems with my Canon lenses above ISO400. Really like this. Graham

Nice action shot. We don't have dippers in my area, but from what I understand this is an unusual capture - getting both the bird and the lunch. Congrats on the new lens.
