I guess I should add the following info;

Sony a700
Minolta 70 - 210 mm f4 (Beercan) @ 75 mm
f/10
shutter speed 1.6s
exposure comp. +2.7
ISO 200
Cokin Circular Polarizer
Cokin 3 Stop ND filter

Sorry I should have included this in the original post. :frown:

Welcome here, Lee. I'm sure you will enjoy your time at this place with all the other great photographers.
You've got quite a nice shot here. The image is well composed and the blue tones work very well. The only thing I would look into is a little better web sharpening. You can look here ... http://pacificnw.naturephotographers.net/tips/photoshop.htm

Welcome to NPN Lee, pretty scene indeed, and nicely composed, as Andreas mentioned, a touch of sharpening will complete this very nicely. Great shot.

Northern Territories. The image looks as cold as it must actually be there. Very nice image, however. Well put together and it has a nice feel to it.

Lee, This is a beautiful shot and extremely well crafted for a first post! I love the layered diagonals of snow, the soft water movement and you did a great job with the exposure. My only nit is the greenish color cast. You might try and open this in Photoshop and make a new layer adjustment: levels then hit auto. Instead of 'normal' in the little box above, put 'color' and then fade until it looks more blue and less green. Then it's perfect! Welcome to NPN!

Great first post, Lee. Nice composition and color. Definitely gets across the idea of frigid cold. Beautiful work. Welcome to NPN.

Beautiful. Feels very soft, did you sharpen after downsizing for post?

Regardless, beautiful image. Nice post.

Lee,

I'm a little late, but welcome to NPN and the ES&S Gallery. I know you already have your second posting and I will get to that one too - eventually. We're glad to have you here and this is a wonderful winter image. I'd go so far as to say it would make a lovely postcard or holiday greeting card.

I like the colors here and can see the green tint Mike referred to, but I see that mostly in the deep snow along the shoreline on the left. But you could certainly take this in several directions color wise, including b&w. I like the comp, the balance and the shutter speed for the water worked out nicely.

Thanks for posting. We look forward to more of your images and just as importantly, your participation in making comments as well. Welcome!

Lon
