November Sky

Yesterday was my last chance to visit this location for the next little while. This location, in Kananaskis Country, Alberta is inaccessible by car from December 1st to May 15th every year to protect wildlife that spend their winters there. Well, I guess I could do it as a a 16km round trip hike...

Luckily the sunrise didn't disappoint. The colours were really, really intense. Although I had planned to shoot the mountains, I couldn't resist shooting this scene behind me instead. This goes to show you that you need to focus on the light and not on your planned subject. Go with the flow, so to speak.

Tech:
Canon 5D2
Canon 24mm TS-E
2 & 3 Stop ND Grad filters stacked
4 Seconds at f/13

Really nice, Tom! Is this in the Highwood area then? Or in the closed area past Elbow Falls?

Lovely colours Tom and well executed, looking behind is a key skill, sounds like you learned it well.

Amazing light, I love the reflected color in the surface of the water.

Great light and comp Tom! I might try to dig a little more detail out of the shadows if possible, but I don't think it's a deal breaker in this case as the lines of the mountain are most important for the comp.

I'm going out to K-Country this week and hope to get this lucky with the light!

What's so hard about a 10 mile hike? Great warm colors here.

Pretty scene, Tom! Some great drama. Exposure looks good overall. The sky highlites (reds and yellows) look blown/clipped. Check your histogram. Use TKs sat masks or the equivalent. Very nice!

Great color and beautiful sky Tom. Nice perspective too. Must be getting real cold up in your neck of the woods.

Awesome image Tom. I love the gentle curve of the river, and of course the light. Well done.

a good example of what you say...go with an idea, willing to change it as soon as nature tells you so. If not, images could be done with google earth :)

Thank you for the comments everyone!

Jeff: This was in the area past Elbow Falls. I love this place and it's only a 45min drive from my house!

Wayne: We should go out shooting again one of these days!
