First Impression + bw
by Anthony Vincent
I almost forgot about this one from my recent Smokies trip. I knew "of" the Tremont area, so I got up early and headed out well before sunrise. Pitch black upon arrival, I had to wait for the light.
I was the only one here and as the light began to softly illuminate the forest I began shooting. I saw this beautiful cascade and immediately headed down to the water level on this big rock. It wasn't until I was finished and backed up the slope (and one other photographer arrived} that this was "the" spot. Im glad I was unaware and this photo represents my first reaction to the spot. Good thing it was past prime because I probably would have been shot down here by about 30 other photographers. Anyway I hope you enjoy my interpretation.
I felt obliged to include one from the classic position below. It's a b+w rendition which I like best as the peak was over.
Thanks again for all your time and comments

I actually do too, personally
Ben, thanks as well. A bit of honesty, the 40D's a great camera but am beginning to feel its limits. Think it's time for an upgrade, ohhh wait getting married.......maybe next year.

I also like your B&W conversion and the treatment of the water by exposure. The focus I see in your B&W image is the water, not the season and water. It has a more etheral quality to it. Only drawback from this classic position is the tree left side. I take it that the lichen covered rock in the lower part of the image was your stage for the "First Impression" capture? The "First Impression" capture doesn't have anthing that blocks the view!

Great shots. I like the dynamic perspective in the color shot, and am a little distracted by that danged branch sticking out in b&w. But nits. Great images.

Outstanding image and vantage point from this wonderful location. Hard to imagine from the well known broader view how you managed this one, but I love it. Great job! The b&w isn't too shabby either.
