Wow, excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to see a bit more room on the right, if possible, and would abandon traditional format to achieve this.
everything works here - the positioning, the BG, the DOF, water drops, and even a reflection!
EP material for sure.

Just awesome. Detail, color, action etc. especially for such a difficult species. Where you using a blind?
It does need a CW rotation though.

I witnessed this behavior this summer in some grebes, very fun session (maybe a bit more fun for the participants than the photographer, but not much ) You got a perfect exposure and some excellent detail.

Guy
A really moving & powerful image as posted.
Agree that a bit more space on the right would make this even better.

Guy, Congrats on this award. The low angle, shallow DOF and reflections in your images always make for compelling scenes, and the "intimate" interaction makes this one exceptional.

This is perfect. I find the composition just fine in this image, it's not always about having a little more room to the right or it completely ignores the rules of thirds(lol) it's about how the photographer percieves the moment and situation. This image captures the very essence of behavior and you did it splendidly and couldn't be better. Well done, the exposure is right on the money.
