I find Iris's very hard to photograph, there's so much to the flower and when I capture all of it I normally don't care for the image. This time I singled out just a couple petals and the beard while using the early evening sun for back lighting.
1/100 sec, F2.8, ISO 100, Canon 100mm Macro, RAW conversion.

One of the best photos I've seen of an Iris. As you said, they are extremely difficult to photograph. You nailed it!

I can see why you are pleased with this. It looks great. The dark green sets off the violet tinged petals beautifully.

John: This is really good. I do find that most iris shots that I really like are extracts. Good vision on this one. A tiny bit more room right and bottom would be my only suggestion. Excellent comp. >=))>
