Whipping down the Glenwood Highway in southern Washington earlier this fall, this scene caused me to hit the brakes and whip a u-turn.

Nikon D80
Nikon 18.0-70.0 mm f/3.5-4.5 at 52 mm
Hand Blend of 1/45 at f/13 and ISO 400 (I hate it when I forget to change the iso!)

Real purty, John, maybe crop or clone the dark green in the ulhc. Great shot!

Gorgeous fall color John. I love the simple, tight composition; the image has all it needs contained right in the frame. Fantastic color. I also like that you included a bit of the grasses at the bottom for a base.

Gotta be careful out there on the highway, but glad you were able to capture this!

There should be a warning before one hits this spot. The colors are eye popping. :toast:

Awww man Stan. You shouldn't have changed your comment. It was LOL funny and I wanted to quote it.

My driving in a target rich environment is dangerous enough, but fall color season is hunting season and rural SW Washington is covered with hunters this time of year. Great people and always friendly, although they seem to think it strange that anyone would be out photographing when they could just as easily be out hunting. I always wear an orange vest while out in hunting season. As I was shooting these orange colors I decided the vest was more camouflage than not, and that maybe I should just shoot myself and get it over with  .

I think the slight diffusion really holds the colors back well, and they are just unbelievable. Excellent comp to show them at their best.

I can see why you made the sudden U turn; I would have done the same thing. The white birch trunks really stand out against the vivid autumn colors. A fantastic image, John.

Hope you didn't get whiplash. Excellent eye and reflexes for such a drive by. Does this qualify as a drive by shooting? Excellently executed. :toast:

The 'glow' here is a little strong for my tastes but none the less a beautiful image. Those are some intense colors, i love it.

Nice find, John. A reward for keeping your eyes open and a camera in the car. Crank up the colors, I don’t mind.

Great composition and of course - the colors. You just don't see that kind of red around here. It would definitely stop me in my tracks!
