Warm November day at Beaver Island State Park, Grand Island, NY

This shot is straight from the camera; no editing. I don't often shoot scenes but some are irresistible!

Hi Vicki. Can certainly understand why you were drawn to this scene. Nice colors and a great reflection. I'm a little confused as to why the blue behind the trees seems to go to white at the top, but yet the reflection carries the blue throughout. Otherwise a great shot!

Hi Vicki,

A striking scene and I can certainly appreciate why you couldn't resist this one. I really like the symmetry created by the reflection. Initially I was thinking the grasses/bush in the LLC were a distraction, but honestly I think they nicely fill what would have been a void in that corner.

Like Patricia, I'm curious about the sky - or lack there of. Look closely, it's almost as if it was masked out on purpose? There's a line to the right of the tree with blue sky below and white above. Perhaps you can let us know what happened? Actually, the end result is pretty effective in isolating the nice grouping of trees and accentuates the symmetry as well.

Oh, and you can also post up to 720px on the long side. this just a tad on the small side.

Thanks for sharing!

Lon

Prett scene Vicki - I'm drawn to the calm reflection, especially of the tree on the right.

Lon and Patricia, thanks for your thoughtful comments. I also noticed the lack of blue sky above the trees and wondered why. It was late afternoon on a very clear and cloudless day, really not one of those "blue" sky days. Could it be the water better reflected the appearance of blue? I'd like to understand it better myself.

I did like the effect though of just a hint of sky above the tree and chose to leave it as is, rather than photoshop a sky into the pic. And at first I was concerned about the weeds in the left foreground but after trying to visualize them gone, decided they helped the balance of the image.

For not often shooting scenes, you did a fantastic job! This image surely doesn't need editing, just remember that the camera doesn't always see things the same way your eye does... Sometimes editing (without over doing it) is necessary.
Great image, Vicki! :toast:

I'm not adverse to editing, Rick, I love to tweak and play with my shots, sometimes just barely, sometimes alot. I love shots like this that don't want my help at all!

I am thinking about removing everything but the main trees and their reflections on this one, leaving them to float on white.
