This was taken late in the afternoon on a summer day, a couple of Melitaea didyma on a blade of grass: I was impressed by the bottom one that looks kind of "dry" or "dead", it seems it is not even grabbing the plant with its legs, I didn't notice it in the viewfinder. Someone told me that the topmost one is the female, while the bottom one is the male. I admit that technically it is not a great shot, focus is not accurate and I feel it is lacking in composition, nonetheless I like the moment being captured.

Francesco, I like this photo because this is what photographing is about. Catching that moment in nature that you can share with others that have not had the chance to observe Nature at its best. Thanks for sharing! :toast: :toast:

I think you are too hard on yourself. The comp is fine and the focus is spot on and sharp on the eyes of the female. The male is probably in catatonic rapture rather than dead

The detail picture of the butterflies is excellent. Only the BG is disturbing a bit. Francesco you should try to clone the two white and the rather large violett spots and to blure the BG.

Thank you all for the comments, yes the background is a bit messy, but I don't feel comfortable with the idea of cloning away details and blurring: as it is a film shot I consider it a finished product, and if I were to print it with traditional methods that would be the actual scene. Indeed, I should have looked for a more uniform background in the first place, or tried a different lens/aperture.

Have a nice weekend :wavey:

The shot has a very good composition and is sharp, the BG is something that we cant allways control--AND WHY SHOULD WE TRY CONTROL NATURE, just enjoy it   :wavey:
