Snow on Dune Etude

Plenty of Zion pics left, but i thought i'd mix things up a bit with this abstract from the Great Sand Dunes that i shot on my way to Zion NP. I hadnt planned on stopping at the Sand Dunes, but when i saw in the distance that the dunes were covered in snow (doesnt last long) i made a detour and ended up spending half the day shooting the dunes. I got there late morning, but fortunately there were some left over clouds from the snowstorm and this mixed with the low-angle late October sun to give me a couple hours of good light. This is probably my fav of the day, should contrast nicely with all the warm sunset shots of the sand that i have.

Very cool as usual Stan, always dig your dune shots. I thought this was snow when I looked at the thumbnail!

Nice abstracts, Stan. Snow on sand dunes alone is spectacular for me.

Would never expected to see snow on the dunes, what do I know, being a north easterner. Anyway, I'm liking this alot, beautifully done as always Stan.

lovely tones stan. not sure if there's anything to be done (for web presentation at least) for the black line upper left area that i find a little distracting. maybe reduce its size?

Great picture Stan. As you said this is a nice addition to your collection of dune shots.

Sweet shot Stan and I really like the composition. the thin shadow through the middle of the image is really cool. I wonder if you could clone out the little black/dark area to the left of the shadow? I know that's minor and nitpicky, but for me its slightly distracting as well.

Very nice abstract. I love the tonal transitions and barely visible textures. The bottom and far left aren't doing much for me, so I wouldn't mind seeing a crop off those (perhaps let that diagonal in the upper left to start in the upper left corner?).

Pure elegance as ususal. I am picky here - on the ridge on the left is this dark line - if it was not there the shot would be perfect. Now it is just ridiculously good...

Gorgeous shot. Maybe the thin dark line on top left bothers me a little...but that is being picky!

I agree with the comments about the little dark line being a distraction. Otherwise, this is a really cool shot. I liked all of the others that you posted on RMNP, too. Looks like you had a fun and productive detour.

Stan, you make the most phenomenal images of these dunes all year round, even when covered with snow. Gorgeous image.

I don't like the blue border here, Stan. Your shot looks very nice though. Smooth and clean, just lovely.

Unusual, but highly creative in its simpleness! I might have said this before, but you see the world in a different way from most of the photographers here. Congrats for that!
