. . .for lack of a better title. I'm not really a "birder," but I found this little guy perched on one of the large cliff edges of Colca Canyon, Peru. I'm interested in any and all critiques (much appreciated) and also if anyone knows what genus, family or better yet species it could be? Thank you!

can't help you with the ID, but it's a neat looking bird and the plant beside it is interesting too. I'd love to see it a little larger.

I can't ID this little fellow either but find him/her attractive.... just too small and kind of "lost" in the image. The rocks, BG and plant all look interesting and all or part of those elements could help contribute to a crop 10 approx. 1/3 of this original.

I like this composition. The bird looks like some kind of Thrush, but I don't have a "Birds Of Peru" guide. They get thousands of species there

Nice shot Lindsay, I´ve got a Birds of Peru at home but we are travelling right now. Email me in a week and I´ll check my field guide. :wavey:

Your bird is a Rufous-naped Ground-Tyrant (Muscisaxicola rufivertex), I took a few pictures of this bird in central Chile (http://www.astro.umontreal.ca/~artigau/frames/frame4410_en.html). Ground-Tyrants are related to flycatchers and some species live quite high in the Andes.

Cheers,

Etienne

Wow, thanks guys for all your comments and help (and especially the identifications, Etienne!). He looks awfully quaint to be a "Tyrant" (haha), but he definitely matches the beautiful photos from your website. .
