The Sands Of Time

This was shot in a diamond mining ghost town near the Namibian coast during this year's Namibia workshop. The town was abandoned in 1956 and the desert has been reclaiming its territory ever since.

Nikon D2X, AF-S 24-70/2.8, 1/4 @ f/16, ISO 100, tripod

No, I didn't. I prefered to shoot it like this, because I wanted an asymmetrical composition, because I wanted to include quite a lot of the dark foreground to make the room in the background stand out more, and because with a vertical composition I would have had to include some of the sand in the foreground that was in the shade and not very interesting in terms of texture. Hope that explains my choice.

Thanks for you comments!

I love seeing photos of this place. Good choice in composition as it does make the background just pop! No yellow casts here  Very well done. :toast:

I like this a lot Marsel right down to the peeling paint and texture and color of the sand. As with all ghost towns, makes one wonder about many things.

Very creative composition Marsel. Your style is developing, becoming even more creative and therewith stronger and stronger. Very inspirational. Especialy because you take the effort to explain why. :toast:

I love it Marsel! Great choice on the comp, I think the lines of the sand work very well to draw the eye from left to right.

Wow ... I almost said "what a great setup". Such locations aren't in your backyard for sure. Great composition and exposure too.

Marsel,
It must be a dream to see places like this. Of course this image is again amazing as the warm earth tones really work here with a bit of nostalgia.

A magical place for sure Marsel, and you've captured it perfectly - right down to the dangling wire.
