So still no Spain images yet from me, but another family shot from Finland. Altough this one does not have the pose of my last post the light here is much more enjoyable. Now I'd love to hear which you like better, my former post or this one? Bring it on!

Thank you for looking!

Tech: Sony a700, 300mm @ f4, 1/500th and iso 800.

PS. Looking at the image there seems to be some oversharpening (which is curious since I barely applied any at all) which of course is nowhere to be seen in the original

All the Bears are very well placed in the frame, I find the sharpening to be ok.

This is quite nice in its own right, with the faces well located in the frame. But...it is more static in that all bears are looking directly at the source of that funny clicking sound and their postures are much less dynamic. I prefer the first, but would be hoping for the first with this kind of light! It is why we keep going out there, isn't it?!

Looking again, I see that the female and nearest cub are nicely focused, while the left side cub is slightly out of the focus plane. Looking at your techs, I think you could have safely tried a smaller aperature for greater depth of field.

Jorne,
This is a wonderful image in my opinion and agree the light is better than on your former post. Now, if both were mine, at my next outdoor art festival the former image would be shown framed and hung on the display racks. This image would be printed large and offered for sale in the print bin. Both are excellent. However, your former post gets the nod because the bears are less static. I am not sure I would make the same decision if my objective was to get this published in Outdoor Photographer and could only submit one image. At any rate, I have enjoyed looking at both and thank you for sharing them as well and making us think a little bit.

For myself, I happen to like this bear image better. The light and bears positioning make this image,
although both are very good images, well done.

How can you make us choose. I prefer this one just slightly over the other but it is apples and oranges. I like how well you can see the faces in this image and that puts it slightly over the other image. I don't think either of them look static to me.

Thanks everyone. Agree it technically not perfect ( I should have indeed raised the F stop for more DOF) but wanted to post it anyway for comparison! :wavey:

I like this one, Jorne. The lighting is much more spread out on all the bears, but this one lacks the punch of the previous one which had the three bears in different stages of standing. :toast:
