Autumn tundra and stream, looking towards Skolai Pass and Castle Peak, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, AK.

Canon 5DMII. 16-35/2.8. ISO 100. f/13. 3 exposures manually blended.

C&C always appreciated. See LARGER VERSION for best detail.

Great Light Doug.
And the streams leading into the picture make the composition.
The blending is done very convincingly as it should be.

Well done

My favorite part of the world! Was this on the way to McCarthy? This is a nicely lighted morning shot, looking North I assume.

Photographically, I would prefer to see the foreground peak less centered, but I can see where the light and the inclusion of the distant part of the range in the UR created a conflict. Was this cropped from the 16mm end or was this the 35mm part of the zoom?

I like the way the creek brings the eye to the peak. The blend is expertly done.

I think I would have trouble finding a comp here, but you did a great job, Doug. Wondering about pulling down the light sky on the right just a bit.

The detail in the large version is really sweet. I really like the golden fall colors contrasting with the blue stream and sky. That stream also is a very nice leading line. This seems to me like it would be even better as a vertical crop, maybe like a 4x5 or 5x7.

Another great shot, Doug--what a productive trip! The clarity and presentation are great. I wonder if it would have been possible to get even lower--take advantage of those converging streams and emphasize them even more. Good stuff.

Hey Doug,

You have no idea how much I needed to see this photo at the moment .. just the place I need to go, if only via an image - ahhhhhh!

I'd maybe lighten the sky a tad, particularly the middle area. It kinda clashes with the soft early light on the foreground, just a little. I love the converging stream.

Cheers,

Carl

Thanks for the feedback, folks. For the repost, I lightened the mid- sky and darkened it on the right. I played around with different crops, but didn't feel they enhanced the image, and I personally don't mind the central placement of the peak.

Hey Doug,

The repost is better. :)

Maybe a vertical would accentuate the intersecting stream. :)

Oh, note to Phillip Hodgkins.. this is form the Chitistone/Skolai Pass area - about 50 miles east of McCarthy, looking NE.

Cheers

Carl

I like the repost Doug. The small stream and small islands of grass really pull me into the image. Seems like you had a great trip.
