Mercer Magic

Sony A700
Minolta 200mm macro
ISO 400, 1/60 @ f16

I want to give full disclosure and confess jumping the gun a bit. I shot this Saturday October 3 since the weather forecast for today was for rain all day. The forecast was correct and while I might have ventured out today if the prize was big enough  I decided I would post from yesterday. Most of my floral photography is done in my own garden. I'm blessed with a wife who has an incredible green thumb. But this time of year is kind of slow so I indulged myself and made a trip to the Mercer Arboretum. Mercer was hit hard by hurricane Ike last year and is in the process of restoration. They have a small but spectacular water garden that is one of my favorite haunts. I can work these flowers for hours and never tire of their intricate centers and colors. When I see beauty like this in my viewfinder I am always reminded of the incredible creativity of God who has made all for His glory. The natural world cries out to me the motto and namesake for our site, Soli Deo Gloria, To God alone be the glory. All comments welcome. >=))>

Lovely Bill! Well said, you don't have to be in the middle of a wilderness to appreciate nature. Nature is fractal and can fascinate on both the largest and smallest of scales.

Excellent work on this one. The colors, comp & DOF combine to produce a stunning image. Sometimes we do have to slow down and take a second look at what is really around us in detail. I'm always amazed at what I find when I do.

This is one of the most outstanding flower photos I've seen in a long time.
