"Hung Up On Ice #2"

17mm gave an interesting perspective but required huge amounts of distortion correction because of the person located in a corner of the image. After all the subsequent cropping, I was left with a little over half my original file. I'm fairly pleased with the result though. What are your thoughts?

Corey was climbing just a short pitch at the very top of a very overhung wall. He made it look easy, but I'm not sure I could have done it. I should have given it a try.

Here is the video link.

The style of composition reminds me a lot of some of Galen Rowell's climbing shots, except on ice. Great shot.

It definitely gives you the feeling of the consequences of failure.

There's not much to worry about here as far as the danger of the situation (although I'll admit that the photo leads you to believe otherwise). The wall is actually so overhung that at almost any point in the climb, Corey could have reached back with his feet and stood up on the ice at his back. The feat was much more physically and technically demanding than it was scary. I'll link to a video later tonight.

A fabulous climbing shot. Wonderful light and color, and a creative perspective to give the illusion of a dangerous gravity line. Fabulous stuff!

Awesome shot Kent!! The video is excellent as well. The perspective is deceiving in a good way- makes it look like he's free soloing over a 100 foot void.

Really fine image, Kent--color, comp, etc., even without the excitement of the climbing--and very nice video, too. Congrats!

Kent,

Love the perspective and all the colors. I know you cropped a lot of the original image, but it's always nice to put the subject (the ice climber) into perspective against what I'm assuming is a pretty impressive landscape. Again, though, I like the image!
