Pawnee National Grasslands - near Pawnee Buttes, Colorado
The shots with the doubler didn't turn out the way I wanted them for the most part, so I've gone back to an image from week before last. The problem has been the rain - almost every day. Of course I went up there to shoot wild flowers and haven't really gotten to that yet.
I'd like to get some shots of these guys pretty much every week or so until they're mostly grown. The rest of the summer I hope anyway.

21 commentsThis is another great shot in a wonderful series. I love the cause (bite) effect (yelp) relationship in this image. Unlike some of your other shots of these kits, I think this one is less about wonderful light and more about the interaction, thus I think it would work best with a little tighter crop (if you have the pixels to do so). I envy this wonderful opportunity you've been given...
By the way - given that there's 3 kits here, I think we officially have a "skulk" of foxes. I couldn't remember if fox young were called kits or cubs...so I did a web search. Found a fun website that lists both infant names and group names for animals - with foxes a group is a "skulk". If anyone is interested, the reference is here:

Cheers...looking forward to the next one...

Another really cute shot! The expression on the face of the 'biter' is priceless. The larger version looks slightly noisy but that could be due to compression etc (looking at your iso prob not from capture?)...
great shot.

Between your excellent timing, the great expressions on both foxes faces, the overall composition, and the smile this puts on my face every time I look at it, I had absolutely no choice but to select this image as Pick of the Week! Congrats Pat - for this and all the other great fox shots you've been posting!
Cheers...

Edit: The point of focus is right on and the dof is perfect. Nice, nice touch!
Many kudos for the EP!

I agree with Wayne on cloning out the legs in the bg.
