Thank you everyone for for all the positive feedback on this image both on the forums and through email. Due to an overwhelming response of requests for the larger size I am reposting the image here.

I hope this image will bring something rarely seen to the fauna gallery. This is a true albino white squirrel (albino common grey squirrel). These strange little squirrels are my small town's claim to fame, and we are fortunate enough to have a very small population of these albinos running around the town. I have been neglecting shooting them very much due to the fact I grew up in this small town and don't think much of them, but whenever I show this image to people it usually gets quite a reaction.

I decided last fall that I really wanted to do something to create something eye-catching using the white squirrel in the fall colors. After attempting for a couple weeks to not only locate a white squirrel, but to find one in the right light, the right pose, and the right colors in the trees. My stalking of these little guys paid off this morning when I was out just looking for some nice fall colors and I saw this little guy looking for winter food. He, ever so nicely, saw me and scurried up to the first branch you see here and sat there for a few minutes posing, then went on up to the top and out of site.

A nicely framed shot. I might be tempted to bump up the mids just a bit, seems a tiny bit dark to me. Nice colour!

Anthony,
Thank you for posting a larger size. I'm able to better appreciate the image in the larger version. There's some lovely details on the fur of the squirrel & the eyes. This image has a nice feel to it.

Holy moly! That is absolutely stunning! What a beautiful squirrel. Do they live very long? I would be blowing this one up and hanging it on my wall. I might clone the white spots toward the lower right corner, but that's just a small nit. Fantastic capture.

This photo is not only special because it shows a true albino squirrel, what makes it so special is the sublime framing and composition. This is also a typical example IMO where a centered placement of the main subject can work extremely well. There is nothing else I would like to add as to why this was selected for this week's pick, the sheer beauty of it speaks for itself.

Unfortunately we were unable to add the larger image later to the original post, therefore herewith the link to Anthony's 'original post', which includes the first comments.

Congrats Anthony! :toast:
