We've come so far and yet...

This immature bald eagle wintered on the Hudson River near Peekskill, NY. We had more eagles than anyone ever imagined on the river this year. The majority were young birds. Their resurgence is due in large part to the cleaning up of the river. As you can see, there is still a lot of work to be done. I find it disturbing to see an eagle in an area with so much garbage, and yet it is encouraging that they have the resilience to flourish. Shot with a Canon 50D with 100-400 IS, 1/800, f5.6, ISO 160

Other than the focus issue, that really stands out in your larger image and a needed crop to the top of the image to remove the distracting background that leads your eye away from the main subject, this is a very good environmental image. The eagle surround by all the trash shows the impact we have on our environment and the creatures that call this place home.
