Golden-winged Warbler

Here's a Golden-winged Warbler photographed in the Roscommon County section of Michigan's Au Sable State Forest a few weeks ago.

I hear that many folks are whining about blown out highlights with the 1D2, but I photographed this species in several lighting situations and there is plenty of detail in both the bright and dark areas of the head in all of them - unlike the piles of discarded slides I have of this species.

Canon 1D2
600IS + 2x

P.S. to Cindy Mead - this area is just west of Higgins Lake and Houghton Lake. There are both Willow and Alder Flycatchers there too.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! :toast: :toast:

Since it's so hard to find a nit with any of your photos, I'll pick on your perch a little here. The cut branch in the UL is a minor nit. I say this mostly because my friend Brian Small hammered me for this yesterday in a shot I sent him. And to think it was a perch that Garth set up, and I didn't catch it.

Bob,
I'm not wild about that branch either, but I certainly didn't cut it. I NEVER set up "perches" that I have prearranged. That branch had naturally broken off and that's where the bird landed.

I really wasn't trying to imply a setup here, nor that you cut the branch, and was attempting to be a little light hearted in my commentary. I guess it didn't come across that way and I apologize, no offense intended.

Beautiful shot Bob! I've spent a fair amount of time shooting these guys as well as the Bluewing hybrids and can't get enough of them!

Stunning photo, Bob; it almost hurts to look at it.

As one of the whiners about blown highlights w/ the 1D2, what does your histogram look like for this shot (i.e., how far to the right does it extend)?

Beautiful image, amazing detail. I also like the one small leaf to the left of the bird...

I think this is my favorite warbler photo posted here this season, and that's a fast field.
