Uelsmann who?

Tonight I was unlucky enough - and you all too  - to stumble upon a clip showing that monster of creativity named Jerry Uelsmann at work. After seeing what that alien is able to do with a few negative film, photo paper and an enlarger I had only two choices:

1- take all my cameras, tripod, computer and everything else and throw it in the trash can

or

2- immediately trying to emulate him.

I chose nr.2 of course...

Thanks for looking and please, be kind...

:wavey:
Paolo

You forgot #3: do your own thing, and better than Uelsmann!
I like some of his stuff, some of it seems cheesey to me.
As for your piece, i think it's quite nice, but i have two suggestions, very subjective of course: I would use fewer trees; 3 or 4, 3 is a very strong number and 4 gives you a nice even balance. Aside from being "lucky", seven is not very good. Second, and for me this would be key, displace the trees so that a couple are in the background (a little smaller than this) and one or two rising out of the surf closer to the fg. That would look very cool.

Just had a look at Jerry's work. Some is cool, most does not float my boat. I like your creation though. Very nicely done. That said, crop off the bottom ocean part and I like it even better. I am a landscape guy, what can I say?

Personally,

Number 1 sounds rather expensive and ultimately futile. 2. I might modify to be inspired by his photo "graphics". Its beyond photography to me, but it is ART! There are elements of this that I really like the surf and rocks . the trees that appear like etchings, but I might not have softened the clouds so much. I agree with Stan the seven trees seems a little too many, maybe even a few as one. Perhaps the most interestingly shaped one may have been a stronger image statement. These a just opinions of course aren't we all art critics anyway.
