Shamrock Spider

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted September 21, 2008732 views15 comments
A rare convergence (in the Portland OR metro region) occurred yesterday: it was cloudy, it was still and it happened on a weekend

That allowed for prolonged fun in the meadows and I happened across numerous spiders, this girl being one of them. With an abdomen the size of a grape I had to sacrifice DOF somewhere, here the legs tips are a bit OOF.

180/3.5 with tube @ f/22, 2.5 sec., speedlight (EV -2) and softbox, reflector, MLU. A slight crop off the right for composition.

Lovely image. Enough DOF to keep most of the spider in focus. Very well done :toast:

Great shot Will. Good job on the setup of the lighting. DOF if fine with all the important parts in focus.

Beautiful image William ! DOF doesnot seem to be an issue here. I would have loved a little more space all around however  :wavey:

I'm afraid she's a little ugly for my tastes but the photo is great! Love the crisp detail. Congratulations on the shot and on your EP. Well deserved :toast:

William,
This is beautiful. We forgive you for the OOF leg!!! I'm so spellbound by the rest of the image that I hardly noticed.
