Highly elusive Jungle Cat

I was attracted to the spot, where Jungle Cat was hiding by the noise of Jungle Babblers, who normally call when they see Snake or Monitor Lizard. This was the young cat, who had just seperated from her mother and was bit confused at that moment, otherwise it is extremely difficult to see this cat during the day.
But she was hiding near the waterbody in thick bushes and was very hard to approach, since it was a very rare animal I decided to give it a serious try, lying on my belly started crawling towards the cat and this picture happened after about an hour. Soon this cat went to sleep after obliging some good shots and I quitely retreated.

Nice to see a jungle cat. Your stalking technique worked well. In terms of composition I would have preferred more room to the left and less on the right. The fill flash is a bit too obvious in my opinion. I'd remove the highlight on the mouth.

Jagdeep,

this is very nice and your effords pay off. I may have pointed the camera a bit more to the left in this case to have the cat less centered but it is a matter of taste :toast:

Truly nit sized, but the reflections on the mouth and the ear can be removed and make this a better image. The exposure of the jungle cat looks otherwise spot on. I believe there is unnecessary space on the right hand edge, but I congratulate you on reaping the reward for your patience! Are these cats uncommon or just highly secretive? Thanks for sharing.

Thanx friends. I agree traditionaly, more space should be left on the left side but the realty is that cat is in the bush and so am I, with so many twigs and leaves around it was difficult to get a clear view. May be, by cropping on the right side it will look better.

I read somewhere long time back "You learn the rules and then forget about them." That is after learning the rules, you can afford to break them , sometimes.

These cats are highly uncommon and secretive as well, they normally come out at night.
Thanks again!

I agree: rules are meant to be broken. That doesn't automatically lead to good results however - if only that were true.
