Early Morning Fishing

Croajingolong, Victoria

I'm not sure which one I prefer so I would really appreciate some opinions on this. I think I like the first one better.

Canon 1DsMkIII, 16-35mm 2.8L, GNDs.

This is a difficult choice Kah Kit. You have produce 2 very pleasing images. I viewed these for a bit and from a small distance from my monitor. Without going into the why's of them both, and to just let you know my preference, I would have to go with the first.
Wonderful work.

I prefer the first. I like its big and open feeling, and the smoothness of the FG. The second is ok, but the composition doesn't work out as well.

I like the first one better. it is brighter and the positioning of the three figures is better IMO.

Definitely the first one - it has much more space, the second version feels a little cramped in comparison. Also, in terms of content the first one is about the people in a wonderful setting, the second one is about rocks and there just happens to be people in there somewhere. My only nit is that the heads are attached to the horizon and I'd prefer to see them just below or just above it. Hope that makes sense.

Well I think both are fantastic. The comp and balance between the rays and people work extremely well in both versions. If I had to choose, I'd go for the second mainly for the foreground. But at the same time, I really like the first and think I could go that way if it were a tad more panoramic with a crop off the bottom. But I think that's being quite nitpicky...they're both fantastic. :toast:

I prefer the first one since there is more depth, and the picture looks more compact - the second one looks like it has loose ends ... either way they are great shots because now you have chocolate on your shoes! :jump: :wavey:

Wow -- great sky. My choice would be the first one. In the second one closer to the rocks, they dominate the FG too much for my taste, detracting from enjoyment of the beach, waves and sky. I know that huge FG rocks seem to be part of the "standard formula" these days, but I just don't find them that attractive compared to a beautiful beach and sky with nice waves.

You know Kah Kit, I am split on the two as I like how the rocks in the foreground draw you in and add immediate interest image in the image but as Marsel mentioned the people are the interest so maybe the first is the best. I am totally on the fence both are great !

That's a tough choice, but I think I would go with the first one. I like the openness of the FG and the perspective it lends.

I too like the expansiveness of the first one. The second is good but seems a little "crowded" in comparision. The main thing was the light, and it was perfect.

I prefer the composition of the first one, but at this size I can't tell that the people are fishing. In the second one I can just see the fishing rod, so it says "fishing" to me more. Congrats on the EP!

First one is by far the best - thse three people really make your standard sea-shore shot sing! Killer stock shot. Darwin

Kah Kit: Just catching up after returning from vacation. Congrats on the EP. I think the first is my preference but I wold take either one. The only thing that would make this better is if it was me behind the camera or holding a rod. >=))>

Kah Kit, composition and color tones on both images are outrageous. Using the GNDs, were you able to produce this image from one file, or did you have to double-process the RAW? It has such a great range of light. Wonderul image (both!).

Paul I double processed the RAW. I think I used about 6 or seven stops of ND grad.

They are both Excellent, I do like the first one a bit more because of the reflection in the sand, but again, they'r both excellent :toast:

Nice images,. I wish you had simply picked the one you liked best, and not ask the viewer have to make the choice. Congrats on the pick.

Excellent image! Congrats on the EP. I like the first one. The space feels better. I like the sunrays, the color in the waves, the tones in the sand, the reflections and the smooth relaxing look. Thanks for sharing the experience!

Wow, some really wonderful scenes here, Kah. As a kid I always prefered surf or wave fishing over any other type, this brought back fond memories of those days. Congratulations on the Photo of the Month selection for 08-2008. :toast:

Both are fantastic, but I really like the way the reflective foreground in #1 leads you through the photo. Good job.

I LIKE THE MORE OPEN FEEL FROM THE FIRST ONE. IT COMES ACROSS WITH MORE SOFTNESS,BETTER PERSPECTIVE,AND TELLS ME MORE OF WHATS HAPPENING. BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL BENNYJENKS

I like the subtle light. I thought the two people off the light path might be hard to follow, but I think that just adds more subtlety to the shot.
