Alien Layers

Gallery: Photo ArtPosted July 3, 20082,487 views22 comments
I took this shot of some rock formations near Cripple Creek CO the other day, result posted at RMNP (Alien Landscape). It was a cloudy day and i wasn't horribly happy with the original, so i took a couple of the shots and composited them in this creation that emphasizes the layer aspect. Let me know if it works for you.

I really like this a lot Stan. The third layer I am not quite sure of because I can see the fourth layer through it. Great piece of art. :toast: :toast:

Absolutely, Stan. I think this works.

Layers are grand.

Not too sure about the touch of green in the furthest rock layer. Something to think about ...

Thanks. David: i experimented with two versions of this piece; the first had all the layers opaque. It was a close call, but in the end i decided on a slightly transparent layer because it emphasizes the dreamy quality, a hazy afternoon with salty tears in your eyes, so you're not sure what your looking at--youll note that i also used a slight offset/embossment to induce a blur as well. I wanted to provoke thought rather than play it staigthforward. But I can see how one might view this as a weakness.

This is fantastic, Stan. Looks like a fine silkscreen print. Love the layers and the symmetry and the brighter glow behind the center gray peak. I would wish the sky had the same look... It looks too real in some respects, and I have no idea what to suggest... I'll leave that to your alchemical wizardry! But this is so pleasing to view.

This definitely works for me, Stan. I think it's a very creative presentation of the rock formations and really like what you've done with the trees. It's kind of harsh and yet also soothing. Terri

Stan, I have no pretenses as to how you did this as I'm only PSE 2 so...this seems to me pretty awesome...Love the layering and the trees placed throughout the image....the hot to cold lighting adds drama...I have a sense of actually being there...standing amongst the formations...I really like this...

This is wonderful Stan! Fantastic layering effect, I didn't even notice the transparent layer until I looked more closely, and I really like that effect. Congrats on the EP

Congrats on the EP. When I saw it earlier in the week I thought it would be a shoo in. Beautifully trippy.

Awesome, Stan. I don't think the translucent layer adds anything, though.

Wow, great treatment and execution! No way would one recognize this as originating anywhere near Cripple Creek.

A jawdropper Stan! It took me a few seconds to find out what I was really looking at. It just looked too unreal, but in a very very beautiful way! Then I saw it and was even more impressed. This is extremely dreamy and... beautiful! Love it!! Great work!!!

Stan,

What a masterpiece! #rd to 4th layer may need some touching up, but overall this is something to be proud of.
