Staff Profile - John Herbst
John’s work has been featured in many magazines including Outdoor Photographer, Nature Photographer, Outdoor and Nature Photography, Field & Stream, the BT Journal, Sierra, Men’s Journal, National Parks and Conservation, Wild Sheep, Bugle, Midwestern Living, Montana Outdoors, and Backpacker to name a few. Multiple books publishers including Abbeville Press, Lyons & Burford, Marshall Cavendish, Terrell Publishing, Northword Press, and St Remy Press have used John’s images. BrownTrout, Impact, Teldon, Silver Creek Press, American Park Network, Teton Magic, KC Publications, Maracom, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Terrell Publishing have used John’s images in their calendars and paper products. Corporations including Gateway 2000, THK Photo Products and Microsoft have been corporate clients. Lastly, John shoots for Sharpshooters Stock Agency of Miami, Florida. John is currently the “Digital Photography Columnist” for Balian’s Outdoor and Nature Photography magazine. In 1991, John and his wife Cheryl started their own wildlife and nature stock photography business - “Grizzly Bear Nature Photography”. Their files of over 100,000 images feature the natural history of Montana, Wyoming, and western South Dakota. Residing in the Black Hills of South Dakota with Custer and Wind Cave Parks within fifteen miles of his home, John has ample opportunity to photograph the many native species and birds that live in the region. Likewise, Devil’s Tower, Badlands National Park, Mt. Rushmore and the grandeur of the Black Hills offer abundant photographic opportunities.
