Is there any thing in the Canon pipeline that would indicate a new version of the 5D Mark II such as a Mark III to come out sometime this year?
I would be perfectly happy with a new 5D Mark II, but if waiting 6 months or so could produce the next generation I would be willing to wait. Thanks for any input.
I use Canon Rumors to follow the latest bits of speculation. My take on it is that frequency of rumours is ramping up for something by the end of the year, but whether that is wishful desire on the part of rumourmongers or something concrete is subject to your own interpretation.
There is supposed to be an announcement in a few days, but whether that will include a full-frame... *shrug*
I would just go for it, Brad. There were all kinds of 5DII rumors for years before it was finally released. Plus, it's a great camera . . . if you have a 5D right now, you'll find the Mark II to be quite a significant upgrade. The increase in resolution, improved LCD, live view function, and many other features make it a much better camera for an experienced user.

Brad, I have the 5D2 and it's a super landscape camera image-quality wise. It's not as robust in its build compared to a 1Ds III obviously, but for a third of the price you get that 21mp wonder-sensor, lol. Its other life is as a cinematographer's dream come true, that a digital camera could record with that film look like no other digi-cam has (not my opinion, I'm echoing several DPs including Shane Hurlbut who directed Terminator:Salvation). The 5D2 has hit Hollywood like a storm. THEREFORE, I can guarantee that 90% of Canon's effort will be improving many things on the video side.
As far as a stills camera, the big things people will want is a more modern AF system, 1/250 sync for flash for sports, and dual-DIGIC processors so you can get faster FPS (only 3.9 now). None of these hits landscape work, so it's probably not worth waiting many months for the 5D3. Those three things exist in the 7D right now so if you're an avian shooter, go for it, you'd want the 1.6x crop factor anyhow. Otherwise, get the 5D2 pronto, you have our full permission to order that puppy!

Brad, I understand exactly where you are coming from and am waiting for the exact same information and reason.
However anyone who does know when the next full frame is being released will not say (NDA) and the rest of us just guess.
History tells us a three year replacement cycle. Sales tell us the 5D2 is still selling like hot cakes, so maybe a replacement is pushed back. So who knows......
5D2 will still be a good camera for years.
It looks like the consensus advice is everyone wants to spend your money.........
