An inexpensive way to insulate tripod legs against cold, or for carrying comfort, is with foam pipe insulation sold at most hardware stores. A few dollars will buy enough to cover two tripods, or one tripod and a set in reserve. I have had the same pipe insulation on my tripod for nearly 2 years and have not had to replace it yet.
