In 2008, while recovering from a few health scares, I discovered Mike Motes’ book Tiny Landscapes. The images contained within, combined with Freeman Pattersons’ Art of Seeing, inspired me to purchase my first digital SLR camera. I regained my strength by taking daily photo walks, and I discovered that I was captivated by the details of nature. Shortly afterwards, I joined the Delta Photo Club in British Columbia, and with some gentle nudging from some of the members, I entered a nature photo competition and won first place. This gave me the confidence to keep entering competitions, where I have continued to win several awards with photography sites such as Canadian Geographic, Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA), National Geographic and on this NPN site. I have been published in a few minor publications, and have been featured with serveral groups and on line blogs. I have been met with several successful solo gallery showings of my images. In 2009 I received my CAPA judging certification. In 2011, my family and I moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta. After 15 years of living on the coastline of British Columbia, it has been a challenge to appreciate the beauty in the prairies, but I am learning to redefine my creative vision. I’m looking forward to seeing where my photographic journey will take me next. |
