NPN Staff Profile - Gary Gulash
Wildlife Gallery Moderator

In 1964 I began my academic career in a one room country school in southeastern Saskatchewan, Canada. In the tiny library at the back of the school room I discovered a book of colorful paintings by the famous frontier painter Charles Russell. I was captivated by his dynamic scenes depicting the old west complete with real cowboys and indians, huge buffalo, ferocious grizzly bears and elk running free on the northern plains. I spent most of Grade 1 day dreaming about those pictures. After high school I attended a technical college and studied Fish and Wildlife. Later I earned a degree in Veterinary Medicine. In between I worked for the Federal Government as a Fisheries Officer aboard patrol vessels on Canada's West Coast. Since 1989 I have practised Veterinary Medicine in the foothills of Alberta just outside Jasper National Park.

Canada's northern foothills are fertile ground for a wildlife photographer in all four seasons. Like many of you I assume, I pursue nature photography for the relaxation, exercise and creative outlet it provides. Because I live in a relatively small community I turned to the internet to find others who might share my interest in wildlife photography and in 2005 I joined NPN. My experience here has been nothing short of phenomenal. Through the process of studying the work of others and having my offerings critiqued my ability and vision as a wildlife photographer has matured and improved. Photographing wildlife and birds has become a passion.

I was thrilled when I was invited to become one of the co-moderators in the Wildlife Forum. It is a new opportunity to again daydream over photos of our wonderful wildlife heritage. Feel free to visit my personal website at www.garygulashnaturephotography.com
