Instructed by Mike Moats, this course is geared to the macro nature photographer looking to learn about the equipment, techniques, and the rules of composition used to produce quality macro/close-up images of nature. Some Adobe Photoshop processing will also be included.

For this course you will need a digital SLR camera, a macro lens or regular lens with extension tubes/close-up filers, tripod and head.

Macro Nature Photography

Week One

You will explore the equipment and accessories used for macro photography:

  1. Camera
  2. Lenses
  3. Accessories
  4. Camera Functions

Full depth of field. We will cover a style of shooting where everything is in focus. Learn which f/stop to use and the subjects that will create the most interesting full depth of field images.

Week Two

Shallow depth of field. In this week's session we will work on the traditional macro style image using f/stops that will blur your backgrounds. Learn how to position your camera for the least distracting backgrounds.

Week Three

Somewhere-in-between depth of field - examine the area of depth of field that is a little different from the typical macro shot.

Week Four

Composition - three of the seven rules of composition that Mike uses to compose his images.

Week Five

Composition - four more rules of composition.

Week Six

A few last minute tips - Mike’s Photoshop Tools. Mike will explain how he processes his images using some simple tools in Photoshop.
