Nature Photography Online Courses FAQ

What are the benefits of signing up for a NPN online course?

Not only will you receive six weeks of one-on-one instruction from one of NPN's professional nature photographer staff (read our students' testimonials), you will also enjoy all of the benefits of membership in the Nature Photographers Network™ for one full year. Read what our members have to say here, here and here.

How are the courses conducted?

Each NPN online course takes place in a “virtual classroom” (private discussion forum). Each week, the instructor posts a lesson in Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf) which you can download and print. You are given one week to complete the assignment and post your results in the virtual classroom for review and comment by the instructor.

How long do the courses run?

Course length can vary but most are designed to run 6 weeks.

How many assignments are given during each course?

One assignment per week (6 assignments for a 6-week course).

What instructional materials are provided?

Each lesson is presented in publication-quality Adobe Portable Document Format (.pdf). These lessons are yours to keep by either saving the file to your computer and/or printing them. You are also encouraged to print threads of discussion that take place in the virtual classroom (for best results, set printing format to “landscape” before printing).

Where do I get the weekly lesson?

The instructor will post a link to new lesson each week in the virtual classroom.

When and how often do I have to log in to the virtual classroom?

You can log in to the classroom any time you wish – there are no set times you have to do so! The instructor will post the week’s assignment on Sunday and you will have to the following Saturday to post your work. However, you are encouraged to log in early in the week to download your assignment. You may also post any questions you may have about the assignment at any time during the week. There are no set times - the classroom is open to you “24/7” and the instructor checks in regularly to answer any questions or provide any help you may need.

Are any special computer skills needed?

You should be comfortable using a basic photo editing program such as Adobe Photoshop Elements. Also, experience participating in online forums, such as NPN’s forums and galleries is very helpful. If you are not comfortable with either of these, an online course may not be right for you.

Do I need special camera gear?

This will depend on the course. We encourage you to contact the instructor and get their advice!

What if I find the course is not what I expected?

If you are not completely satisfied with a NPN online course, inform us via e-mail within 14 days from the start date of the course and we will provide a full refund!

What do I need to do to fully access the virtual classroom?

You will need to (1) register to use the NPN website using the 14-digit membership number we provided in your Welcome email when you signed up for the course and (2) send us your forum user name. Once you do so, we will grant you full access to the virtual classroom approximately one day before the class is due to commence. More info here.
