Alaskan Brown Bear, Ursus arctos middendorffi

Coastal Katmai, AK

Alaskan Brown Bears are normally solitary but will congregate to fish along rivers where salmon are spawning. It dens up in winter but does not truly hibernate and can be easily awakened. Young weigh only one pound at birth but may grow up to 800-1700 pounds.
